Brummies’ optimistic about city’s future

A recent survey by Copper Consultancy of around 1,000 people in Birmingham has revealed that nearly 75% of people are optimistic about the city’s future. Though the community feels like more effort should be made in order to make it feel like it’s part of the city’s developments and changing landscape. There is a lot of excitement within Birmingham towards a number of upcoming projects. Some in particular include the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Birmingham Airport and West Midlands Metro expansion.

Whilst over 50% of people described Birmingham’s economy as growing, with another 20% believing it is growing rapidly, more than 40 per cent of people said they did not feel as if they were benefiting from the changes taking place and the developers were not engaging with them enough. Despite the ongoing construction and roadworks, which have an effect on the daily lives of the city’s residents , the results of the survey showed there still remains a lot of positivity across the city as a whole in regards to its development.

Ben Heatley, managing partner at Copper Consultancy, said, “Birmingham has transformed over recent years. Nearly three-quarters of Birmingham’s residents are optimistic about their and the city’s future, which speaks volumes. However, through our research we now understand that is important to do all we can as developers to bring the residents along with us on the journey.”
