CPiO is taking part in the Cancer Research Shine Night Walk

On Saturday 16th of September, six of our compassionate CPiO colleagues will be taking part in the Cancer Research Shine Night Walk.

The team of 6 will be completing a 10k walk around Birmingham, beginning and ending at Centenary Square, passing well known landmarks including the Birmingham Art Gallery, Millenium Point and the Bullring, in a bid to raise money for a worthy cause and get a step closer to finding the cure for cancer.

So far Team CPiO have raised an impressive £854 plus £162.25 in Gift Aid, greatly exceeding our original £300 target.

We asked our six participants how they are preparing for the Shine Night Walk and what they are looking forward to most about the evening.

Katie Mansell, Marketing Programme Manager:

“I have recently returned from a family holiday at Disney World in Florida. The sheer size of the resort meant that I completed a considerable amount of walking each day which has helped me to prepare for the Shine Night Walk.

I am most looking forward to the atmosphere of the evening with my colleagues and the other walkers. It will be a great achievement to complete the 10k. Cancer sadly affects so many people negatively. However, events like this bring people together and celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost whilst raising money to help find a cure for this cruel disease.”

Claudine Whyte, Marketing Campaigns Manager:

“I have prepared for the Shine Night Walk by ditching the car and taking the train whenever possible. I recently completed a hike at Dovedale Park at the Peak District and I have increased the number of family activities that involve walking such as going to the zoo and visiting the London Museum.

I am looking forward to completing the Shine Night Walk with my colleagues and doing something worthwhile for a great and valuable cause.”

Sam Bathley, Account Management Support:

“I have always been a sport and fitness lover and I usually attend the gym around fives time a week. To ensure that I am ready for the evening I have intensified my usual strength and weight training and walked during my lunch breaks.

I am most looking forward to spending some time with my colleagues outside of work, the positive team spirit of the event and the sense of accomplishment that we will feel once we get to the finish line.”

Verity Dean, Internal Business Development Executive:

“To prepare for the Shine Night Walk, I have increased the distance that I walk my Cocker Spaniel, walking a little further each day.

I am looking forward to giving something back and offering my support to all the people who have had to go through this horrible disease.

If cancer patients can bravely battle cancer and experience some of the scariest, all-time lows in their life, the least I can do is walk 10k to help raise money and show my support.”

Fahima Yasmin, Project Manager:

“I completed a hike at the Peak District across the August Bank Holiday to prepare for the Shine Night Walk and I have increased the intensity of my usual gym work outs.

I am most looking forward to the triumph of crossing the finishing line and completing the Shine Night Walk with my colleagues.”

Monica Filipe-Neto, Sage X3 Consultant:

“I have been preparing for the Shine Night Walk by adding additional walks into my usual routine and I have increased my fitness training throughout the week.

I am looking forward to completing the Shine Night Walk with my colleagues, enjoying the route through the city and simply having fun – all for a good cause.”
