Sage Intacct vs Xero: a comparative overview

Sage Intacct vs Xero: a comparative overview

Sage Intacct vs Xero - two popular accounting software solutions that offer many similar features. However, there are some key differences between the two platforms that may make one a better choice for your business over the other. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Xero vs Sage Intacct and compare their features, pricing and more and in turn help you determine which finance solution may be the better fit for your organisation

Features

Both Sage Intacct and Xero offer a range of accounting features, including invoicing, bank reconciliation, cash flow tracking and financial reporting. However, Sage Intacct offers more advanced capabilities for larger businesses, such as multi-entity management, complex billing and revenue recognition and project accounting.

Sage Intacct also has more robust automation and customisation capabilities, allowing users to create workflows and automate processes. With an open API, Sage Intacct can be seamlessly integrated with external applications such as CRM, ERP, payroll & HR systems.

Xero is often considered less complex and therefore easier to navigate, with a simpler, more basic interface. Xero does also offer a range of integrations with other business tools, such as payroll and inventory management software.

Pricing

When considering Sage Intacct pricing vs Xero it's clear the pricing models differ significantly. Sage Intacct is geared towards larger businesses and has a starting price of around £350 per month for its starter plan. Pricing for Sage Intacct’s higher-tier plans depends on the number of users and specific features needed. However, priced per user, per month with businesses able to select only the modules they require, Intacct is renowned as a cost-effective solution with proven ROI - On average, businesses that buy Sage Intacct see a 250% ROI and payback in under 6 months.

Geared toward smaller business, Xero offers more affordable pricing options. However, the basic Xero plan includes only basic accounting features and supports just one user. Users can scale up to more advanced plans with additional features and support – at a cost. Hence why for more mid-sized organisations Xero tends to offer less appeal.

Customer Support

Both Sage Intacct and Xero offer customer support through phone, email, and chat. However, Sage Intacct provides more extensive support options, including a dedicated account manager, access to a team of experts who support Sage Intacct and can help with more complex issues, as well as online tools.

Xero also offers a range of support resources, including a knowledge base and online community forums, but does not provide the same level of personalised support as Sage Intacct.

Integration

While both platforms offer integrations with other business tools, such as Salesforce CRM, Shopify and Hubspot, Sage Intacct has the edge with an open API, allowing for seamless integration with a vast range of external applications.

Xero also offers integration, but with the Xero platform being largely ‘out-of-the-box’ and predefined, customisation options are limited in comparison to Sage Intacct.

During the Xero vs Sage Intacct decision making process it is essential to consider which integrations may be required, which integrations are available and how well they will work for the business.

Scalability

Another important factor to consider is the platform's scalability. Where an organisation anticipates significant growth, it is crucial to choose a solution that can accommodate its expanding needs and grow in line with the business - for example allowing for additional users to be added as necessary and considering the software's ability to handle more demanding processes. Sage Intacct is known for its scalability and robust capabilities, making it a suitable choice for growing businesses.

Xero, while suitable for smaller businesses, may not offer the same scalability as Sage Intacct accounting software. A new finance system is an investment. By selecting an application that scales, should the business experience growth it is very easy to scale up. A lot easier (and cheaper) than starting again with another new, more robust finance solution!

Industry specific features

Sage Intacct and Xero are both well known, reputable accounting solutions. However, Sage Intacct tends to outshine Xero with its industry-specific features. Intacct offers robust solutions for complex industries such as healthcare, finance and non-profit, providing tailored features that cater to their specific needs. Its scalability and customisation options make it an excellent choice for businesses with diverse and evolving requirements.

Xero is known for its versatility for smaller, less complex organisations. It does cater to various industries by providing specific features that address more common accounting needs. However, the software's strength lies in its user-friendly interface and accessibility, making it a solid choice for businesses seeking a straightforward accounting solution without highly specialised industry requirements.

Depending on the field of business, an organisation may require industry specific features. For such requirements, Sage Intacct is the ideal finance management solution.

Which One Should You Choose?

Ultimately, the decision between Sage Intacct vs Xero depends on your business’s unique needs and preferences. If you’re a larger business with complex accounting requirements and need more advanced features and customisation options, Sage Intacct may be the better choice. On the other hand, if you’re a start-up or smaller business looking for an affordable, user-friendly solution with plenty of integrations and support resources, Xero may be a better fit.

No matter which option you choose, both platforms offer reliable, secure, and modern accounting solutions that can help streamline your financial operations and save you time and money in the long run. G2 rates the applications highly. Sage Intacct rated at least four out of five stars by over 90% of users, with a huge 61% of users providing a five star review.
